New York CNN —Elon Musk’s brain implant startup Neuralink is accepting applications for a second human trial participant to test its device, the billionaire said on X Friday. Neuralink said that the threads connecting the chip to Arbaugh’s brain had retracted, causing performance issues, although the company said it made adjustments to improve its function. Still, Arbaugh says the implant — which allows him to control a computer cursor with his brain — has changed his life. This is the next step forward of helping people with paralysis.”Now, Neuralink is seeking more people like Arbaugh to test out its brain chip. About a month after the operation, Musk said Arbaugh could control a computer mouse with his brain.

New York CNN —The first test subject for Neuralink, Elon Musk’s brain chip implant startup, has developed a problem just a few weeks after it was inserted. But the company said it was able to make the implant more sensitive to increase its performance even further. About a month after the operation, Musk said Arbaugh could control a computer mouse with his brain after having the chip implanted. Like existing brain-machine interfaces, the company’s implant would collect electrical signals sent out by the brain and interpret them as actions. Before Neuralink’s brain implants hit the broader market, they’ll need broader regulatory approval.

All those late coaching moves added some intrigue to the first Wednesday of February, a day that once highlighted the recruiting calendar but has been anti-climactic ever since the 2017 launch of a December signing period. New coaches had to re-recruit prospects who had signed to play for a different staff and now were free to look elsewhere. So did Brent Brennan, who left San Jose State to take over for Fisch at Arizona. Washington refortified its class by adding about several players who originally had signed to play for Fisch at Arizona. Alabama also lost cornerback Jameer Grimsley, who signed with the Tide in December but will now play at Florida instead.

In Harbaugh’s introductory press conference after he was named the new Los Angeles Chargers head coach, the 60-year-old described his excitement by drawing a comparison to Morgan Freeman’s character in the film, Ellis Boyd “Red” Redding. Get really good at football and attack it each day, like (Chargers president of football operations) John (Spanos) said. But now the new Chargers head coach wants another shot at the big time. “I said this the other day, but I’ve only got so many sands left in the hourglass, and I want another shot,” said the new the Chargers head coach. That’s what’s going to motivate it, that’s what’s going to drive it.

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — The Minnesota Supreme Court on Wednesday reversed the murder and kidnapping convictions of a former probation officer who was sentenced to life without parole for her role in the death of a Minneapolis real estate agent. In the early hours of 2020, Baugh was found shot to death in a Minneapolis alley. The state Supreme Court affirmed the convictions of two of the other defendants earlier while its ruling on Wiggins, the alleged leader of the plot, remains pending. But they said the evidence was not strong enough to convict her of aiding and abetting first-degree premeditated murder, or premeditated attempted murder. So the high court threw out her convictions and sent the case back to the lower court for further proceedings on the remaining kidnapping and felony murder charges.

He will be the first former Chargers player to return to the team as head coach. The Chargers are the fourth of eight teams to fill their head coach job, following New England, Las Vegas and Tennessee. Manuel may promote Sherrone Moore to replace Harbaugh after the offensive coordinator filled in for him during the final three games of the regular season. Herbert will be playing for his fourth head coach and possibly fourth offensive coordinator in five seasons. Harbaugh became a first-time head coach at the University of San Diego in 2004 and left after three seasons to start a four-year run at Stanford.

The Jim Harbaugh derby for NFL teams is about to heat up. A week after leading the University of Michigan to a national title in the College Football Playoff, Harbaugh will meet with the Los Angeles Chargers about their head coach vacancy this week, a person familiar with the situation told The Associated Press. Harbaugh, who previously coached in the NFL, has a prior relationship with the Chargers and the Spanos family that owns it. To prepare for a possible NFL return, Harbaugh recently hired Don Yee as his new agent. Despite leading Michigan to its first national title since 1997, it was a frustrating year for Harbaugh.

ANN ARBOR, Mich. (AP) — Sherrone Moore's tears streamed down his cheeks and expletives left his lips, passionately supporting suspended coach Jim Harbaugh, in an on-field postgame interview after No. “All the craziness, all that stuff going on, it’s just brought us closer and closer together,” Moore said earlier this week. A day before facing the Terrapins, linebackers coach Chris Partridge was fired in the latest wave of turmoil at Michigan. Harbaugh called the Wolverines “America’s team” for continuing to win under the cloud of the scandal. As an offensive guard, he helped Oklahoma win Big 12 titles in 2006 and 2007 and played in BCS bowl games.

Michigan coach Jim Harbaugh was suspended by the Big Ten over alleged sign-stealing violations. Photo: Al Goldis/Associated PressWhen the Big Ten suspended Michigan football coach Jim Harbaugh over alleged sign-stealing violations late Friday afternoon, the school rushed to court with an urgent message: It needs Harbaugh to finish off a dream season. Michigan wasn’t shy about framing the stakes. Its lawyers argued that barring Harbaugh from doing the most important part of his job would damage him, his players, and even the public, based on what it called a flimsy initial investigation by the Big Ten.

CNN —University of Michigan head football coach Jim Harbaugh was suspended for the three remaining games of the 2023 regular season after the Big Ten Conference announced on Friday the Wolverines football program was found to have conducted “an impermissible, in-person scouting operation over multiple years,” thus violating the Big Ten sportsmanship policy. “I want to thank coach Harbaugh,” Moore told the Fox broadcast with tears streaming down his face. The Big Ten Conference said Jim Harbaugh's suspension from coaching on game days was "not a sanction" of the coach. “This is not a sanction of Coach Harbaugh,” it read. “You may have removed him from our sidelines today, but Jim Harbaugh is our head football coach.

The University of Michigan has rescinded a new contract offer for head football coach Jim Harbaugh in the wake of a sign-stealing scandal that has rocked one of the favorites to play for college football’s national championship, according to a person familiar with the matter. The move is the first sign that the school may be hesitant about its future relationship with the famed coach who revived its football program and is frequently cited as a candidate for jobs in the National Football League. Harbaugh’s pay had been cut during the pandemic, but he was given a new contract just last year after bringing the team back to national prominence.

Families are "squeezing to make ends meet," caught between rising prices and a lack of accessible child care, Kim Bracey, chief executive of the YWCA York, told Powell. Julie Keene, owner of Flinchbaugh’s Orchard, zeroed in on inflation, and pressed Powell on the uncertain environment businesses have having to navigate. In conversations with shopkeepers, Powell and Harker focused on aspects of the businesses and the owners' backgrounds - not inflation or the impact of interest rates. Speaking with Reuters ahead of their arrival at her shop she said high interest rates were pressing her hard. "I mean, lower the interest rates," she said.

Accounts of suicidal thoughts linked to this class of drugs are drawing increasing scrutiny, including an investigation by European regulators announced in July. More than half of the narrative summaries describe suicidal thoughts appearing shortly after the person started the medicine or increased the dose. Wegovy’s U.S. prescribing label, produced with FDA approval, says suicidal thoughts or attempts have been reported in clinical trials for other weight-loss medicines. Sanofi's Acomplia, which never won U.S. approval, was withdrawn in Europe in 2008 after being linked to suicidal thoughts. She said she has not experienced any suicidal thoughts on that drug.

Chickens may not be able to fly very far, but the price of eggs is soaring. A lingering bird flu outbreak, combined with soaring feed, fuel and labor costs, has led to U.S. egg prices more than doubling over the past year, and hatched a lot of sticker shock on grocery aisles. But egg prices are up significantly more than other foods — even more than chicken or turkey — because egg farmers were hit harder by the bird flu. But she said bird flu remains a wildcard that could still drive prices higher if there are more sizeable outbreaks at egg farms. Any decrease in egg prices would be welcome at Patti Stobaugh’s two restaurants and two bakeries in Conway and Russelville, Arkansas, because all of her ingredients and supplies are more expensive these days.
